Firefighters Honored For Fundraising
Mt. Prospect Firefighters Local 4119 received a plaque at Tuesday's regular village board meeting for their fundraising efforts in 2009. On the morning of Aug. 14, 2009, off duty firefighters from Local 4119 walked from car to car asking for contributions to "Fill the Boot" for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
"Together we raised $3,296,67 to donate to MDA in 2009 thanks to the generosity of every motorist and pedestrian who stopped and gave what they could," said Mike Hayes, Local 4119 member and event organizer. "We always say every penny helps and this year $626.67 was donated in change alone."
"Our Local 4119 raised $17,689.89 for various charities and organizations in 2009, including the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp for children and the MDA," said Local 4119 President Kevin Wilson According to the MDA, Chicago area firefighter unions raised over $248,000, which will be used directly in the fight against neuromuscular diseases.
