Surveillance Cams To Go Up At Village Hall
Between 6-10 surveillance cameras will be installed inside and outside Mt. Prospect Village Hall and its connecting parking garage by the end of this month or early February at a total cost of $34,000.
Camera locations include the Finance Department's customer service area on the first floor, east and west entrances to village hall, the basement of the parking garage, the top level of the garage and at the entrance/exit area of the garage.
The village issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to install a video surveillance system to help capture images of and deter criminal activity.
"We wanted a camera at each transaction window, but we might have to do that at a later time," said Michael Dallas, administrative analyst for the village. "There will be no cameras on other floors at least for the time being."
According to Dallas, more cameras are expected to be installed in the future.
Digital video will be stored on a network video recording server in the IT (Information Technology) Division and will be accessible by any workstation in the village, with appropriate access rights, and can be monitored real-time or played back to investigate an incident.
The system can also extend to Blackberry and other Windows mobile devices, providing the ability to view video at remote locations. The $34,000 includes installation, configuration, training, and testing. Dallas said the police department will have main access to the system and will have the ability to view it at anytime.
