Library To Study Second Floor Layout Trends
As part of the Mt. Prospect Public Library's recent strategic plan (future initiatives or goals), the library board and staff will study the second floor service desk model and the location of specific collections.
Since moving in five years ago, staff has had a chance to observe changes that have occurred because of technology, collection use, and service patterns.
As a result, the staff and board are interested in exploring service and collection strategies to improve and enhance patron services for adults and teens.
Anders Dahlgren of Library Planning Associates, Inc. has been associated with the library for almost 20 years. He developed the original space plan for the library in 1993 and made several revisions of it until the expansion of the facility in 2004. Anders was hired in the amount not to exceed $7,130 to do the study since he is well acquainted with the library building, Library Executive Director Marilyn Genther said. The study will involve Anders working closely with staff to facilitate the identification of alternate strategies for space use on the upper floor of the building.
Genther said this will be accomplished through a series of three brainstorming sessions structured to provide an opportunity to involve all of the staff who work on the second floor (the Information Department, the Reference Department, and the Fiction Department)
According to Genther, this will help identify conditions and possible solutions for collection as well as trends/directions for services.
These discussions will be followed up with a working session with the library's management staff to review and fine-tune the emerging reconfiguration strategies to present recommendations for the board to consider.
