Township Bus Ride Requests Up
Wheeling Township hopes to add another bus to its fleet to handle the increased calls for service.
"The requests for rides are increasing substantially," explained Jo Stellato, director of finance and administrator for the township. "We're looking for some ways to be able to accommodate some of those riders."
The township currently has 10 buses but hope to obtain one more. Trustees at the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 27 discussed options for procuring the additional vehicle without dipping into the township's budget.
At the same meeting, trustees agreed to a contract with R. Lederleitner of Arlington Hts. for snow removal on township roads. Wheeling Township, unlike most similar units, does not have a highway department. Plowing for the five miles of unincorporated roads is contracted, Stellato explained.
The board plans to approve a tentative levy at the next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 24. "The CPI (Consumer Price Index) for all of Cook County is 0.1%, so that's all our levy can go up," Stellato explained. "We may just keep it the same as last year."
The township must file the levy with the county by Dec. 29. Its fiscal year runs from Mar. 1 to Feb. 28.
Wheeling Township includes parts of Prospect Hts., Wheeling, Arlington Hts., Mt. Prospect, Buffalo Grove, and small portions of Des Plaines, Northbrook, and Rolling Meadows.
