Village Escapes Damage From Wednesday Microburst

Mt. Prospect escaped damage, blackouts and flooding from an intense microburst storm that cut a swath through Chicago and the Northwest suburbs Wednesday, uprooting trees and knocking out power in other communities.

In Des Plaines the microburst uprooted trees and knocked out power to several areas of the city.

The Journal spoke with several Mt. Prospect residents surprised and concerned about the ferocity of Friday's storm.

Mt. Prospect officials said they kept a watchful eye on the level of the Des Plaines River but said the river did not over run its banks.

Wednesday's microburst came less than a week after heavy storms closed roads and caused minor flooding in Mt. Prospect.

A village spokeswoman said loss of air-conditioning Friday at village hall was not related to the storms.
