Juracek Appointed Mayor Pro Tem
Mt. Prospect Trustee Arlene Juracek was appointed Mayor Pro Tem Tuesday night, replacing Trustee John Korn, who served in the position for the last year.
Village code requires elected officials to select one trustee to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. Juracek will take over the role of mayor if something should happen to Mayor Irvana Wilks, or if she is absent from the village.
The one-year term runs from July 1-June 30 of the following year.
In addition to serving as Mayor Pro Tem, Juracek will also serve as liquor commissioner if needed.
According to village code policy, the person selected to act as a replacement to the mayor should be an experienced and committed trustee who has an excellent record of attendance at village board meetings.
Juracek has been a Mt Prospect resident since 1977. She was first elected to the board in 2007. She is a retired utility executive.
Since 2004, Wilks and trustees Paul Hoefert and Michael Zadel, along with Korn and former Trustee Richard Lohrstorfer have all served a one-year term as Mayor Pro Tem.
According to Village Attorney Buzz Hill, if Wilks was to move away or pass away, a special election would need to be conducted if there were more than 28 months left on her term.
Anything less than 28 months would be to the board's discretion.
