District 57 Approves Superintendent Contract
By RICHARD MAYER Assistant Managing Editor
Numerous administrative contracts were approved last week by Mt. Prospect Elementary School Dist. 57 board members including contracts for new Supt. Elaine Aumiller and reinstated Fairview Principal April Jordan.
Taking over for retiring Supt. Dr. Bruce Brown, Aumiller's contract will span three years beginning July 1 though June 30, 2012 with an annual salary of $163,500.
In addition to her annual salary, the board will pay on behalf of Aumiller, monies to the State of Illinois Teachers' Retirement System and the Teachers Health Insurance Security Fund.
Based on the board's evaluation of her performance and achievement of her performance goals, Aumiller may receive a merit increase.
Some of those performance goals include: evaluating student performance, including evaluating performance on standardized tests; review district curriculum and instructional services; and report to the board on her findings as to student performance and recommendations for curriculum and instructional changes as a result of the evaluation of student performance.
According to the contract, Aumiller will receive 25 workdays of vacation annually and is also entitled to 15 paid sick days per year.
The board of education will annually provide term life insurance in the amount of two times her current base salary.
Additionally, Dist. 57 will provide Aumiller with a stipend of $450 per month for routine automobile expenses, and $50 per month toward the cost of cell phone usage.
Aumiller was appointed last month to replace Brown, but only after the district's first selection, Dr. Peggy Kaufmann, resigned after facing an alleged driving under the influence (DUI) charge this past April.
Jordan's contract was extended for one year beginning July 1 and will be reviewed by the school board at the end of next school year.
Jordan will be paid an annual salary of $96,554. In addition to her salary, the board will pay on her behalf the required contribution to the State of Illinois Teachers' Retirement System and Teachers' Health Insurance Security Fund. The board has provided $2,000 to the base salary as a compensatory contribution in lieu of an annuity stipend.
According to Jordan's contract, the board has the right to annually adjust her salary. Also, Jordan is entitled to 15 paid sick days and will receive 25 calendar days of vacation exclusive of legal holidays.
The board will pay Jordan a stipend of $100 per semester for auto expenses while on district business, and $20 per month for personal cellular/wireless data expenses.
If Jordan should leave prior to the completion of the contract for another educational position within the six county Chicago metropolitan area, she must pay $15,000 to the board to pay search and related costs to fill the vacated position.
Jordan resigned in March after pre-Apr. 7 election board members decided not to renew her contract for next year.
Current board members decided to reinstate her.
Westbrook Principal Jan Ewing was also given a one-year contract extension through the end of next year in the amount of $101,621.
Lastly, Lions Park Elementary School Principal Kristine Gritzmacher's contract was extended for two years ending June 30, 2011. Her annual salary will be $108,792.
