Swine Flu Works Way To Mt. Prospect
Swine Flu, also known as the "H1N1" virus, is now reportedly in Mt. Prospect.
In a letter written today (Wednesday) to parents in Mt. Prospect Elementary School Dist. 57, Supt. Dr. Bruce Brown states there have been cases identified affecting students in the Westbrook Early Childhood program and in the primary grades at Fairview Elementary School.
"We assure you that this is an anticipated progression of the H1N1 outbreak, and is not a cause for undue concern," Brown wrote in the letter.
Westbrook and Fairview are not expected to be closed, according to Brown. The only way school would be closed at this time would be if the magnitude of absenteeism interferes with the functioning of the school.
The Illinois Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) is continuing to work with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to monitor the Swine Flu outbreak.
At this time, health agencies are recommending students and staff with influenza-like symptoms not attend school for seven days, even if symptoms resolve earlier.
Also, all persons should wash their hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and warm water, and avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth.
Dist. 57's school year ends next week.
