'Triangle' Plan Has Too Many Problems

Editor, Journal:

Although the first reading of the Triangle Redevelopment in Mt. Prospect has been deferred until May 6, there are concerns. I want to make our position crystal-clear- we welcome redevelopment of the triangle to the south of our complex. We are not opposed to redevelopment-only the manner in which the village board chooses to do it.

Representatives of our board met with Mr. Cooney and the proposed developer of the triangle several weeks ago. I also spoke with Mayor Wilks and Mr. Cooney about those plans and conveyed some of our concerns. A representative of our board spoke to the village board at the last committee of the whole meeting and also attended the Planning Commission meeting. Last Saturday, one of our board members and eight residents attended Coffee with the Council. It is obvious we are deeply concerned about the present plans.

We have received numerous emails from residents, as well as pictures of the area we call "The South Lot" behind our complex. We shared copies of these pictures with the three board members who attended the Coffee with the Council. It should be noted that the South Lot is our only means of entrance and exit for Village Centre vehicles.

The current plans for the triangle call for a high-density development that will only exacerbate traffic flow through the south lot and cause an unsafe condition for everyone involved. The issue of access for emergency vehicles is of critical importance along with additional service vehicles, moving vans, disposal trucks, and delivery vans, further complicating the flow of traffic. Since we have been told repeatedly that this "street" belongs to the village, we fully expect that it will remain so after the triangle redevelopment.

We feel strongly that access or egress for any redevelopment project should not be from the South Lot. To summarize, we feel the Board of Trustees needs to consider other plans for the triangle, not just the one presently before it. We feel it is too dense for this parcel of land and our quality of life and safety should be added to the mix in choosing a development for the triangle. A great deal of public money will go toward redevelopment, and we feel it would be hasty to choose one that has so many inherent problems with it.

Submitting Comments Without Name Just Cowardly

Editor, Journal:

One of our most precious liberties in this country is our right of free speech. However that right does not come without responsibility.

In America, even murderers have the right to face their accusers in court.

Yet in every issue of this newspaper, I read spiteful tirades by anonymous critics aimed at public figure, government entities, or other agents of change. These comments are often dripping with ulterior motives.

I would guess that many of these armchair politicians wouldn't be nearly as tough if their names were attached to their comments.

Anyone submitting a comment for public consumption without attaching their name to it is, in my opinion, a coward.
