Police Blotter

ROAD

RAGE

A 22-year-old Mt. Prospect woman reported a road rage incident in the parking lot of Bank of America, 1080 S. Elmhurst Rd. at 5:48 p.m. June 28. She was waiting for a drive-up lane when a woman in a blue 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo allegedly drove around her, cutting her off, she told police. When she expressed her anger at the other woman, she allegedly backed alongside her vehicle, yelled at her, and threw a cup of iced tea at her car. The suspect then fled without conducting any banking transaction.

TRUCK

FIRE

A garbage truck caught fire and burned the afternoon of Friday, June 27. The driver was on Kensington Road near East Drive at about 12:20 p.m. when the engine caught fire, he told police. He pulled the truck to the side of the road and escaped while the entire vehicle went up in flames. Firefighters from Mt. Prospect extinguished the blaze and the truck was removed at 2:20 p.m. Damage to the 1999 Volvo was estimated at $50,000.

DRUG

CHARGE

Eyad M. Abunaim, 36, of 8244 W. 103rd St., Palos Hills, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended driver's license, no proof of insurance, and no seatbelt. An officer stopped him at Elmhurst Road and Milburn Avenue at 7:43 p.m. June 22 for the alleged safety violation. During a search, police allegedly recovered four pills of hydrocodone from his vehicle.

DUI

CHARGES

Festus I. Obanor, 51, of 1201 W. Cottonwood Lane, Mt. Prospect, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and only one headlight at 2:09 a.m. June 25. Police stopped him in the 1500 block of Busse Road for the alleged lighting violation and driving up over the curb. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test.

Henryka E. Oledzki, 48, of 701 W. Huntington Commons Road #416, Mt. Prospect, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol content more than .08 percent, improper lane usage, and improper turn. At 11:55 p.m. June 21, she allegedly turned from the center lane of Elmhurst Road onto Huntington Commons, and then crossed the centerline of that road. She allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later recorded a .200 on a breath test.

RETAIL THEFT

CHARGED

Penny L. Paulsberg, 55, of 610 W. Oakton St., Arlington Heights, was charged with retail theft at Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in Randhurst Mall. She was stopped at 2:50 p.m. June 25 after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for jewelry valued at a total of $115.

Kimberly Y. Chavis, 32, of 12 E. Judith Ann Drive, Mt. Prospect, was charged with retail theft at Jewel food store, 333 E. Euclid Ave. She was stopped at 9:40 a.m. June 26 after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for groceries valued at a total of $213.40.

RETAIL THEFT

REPORTED

A man in a gray and gold van pumped gasoline valued at $105.41 into the vehicle and fled without paying. The theft occurred at 1:19 p.m. June 27 at Citgo, 1500 N. River Rd.

DRIVING

CHARGES

Khaliun Battumur, 22, of 10017 Linda Lane #1N, Des Plaines, was charged with no valid driver's license and speeding at 4:38 p.m. June 24. Police pulled her over at Northwest Highway and Waterman Drive for allegedly driving at 48 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Valisa T. Maki, 22, of 55 S. Vail St. #603, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license and violating the median at 8 a.m. June 25. An officer stopped her at Central Road and Northwest Highway for allegedly passing traffic on the median.

Antonio J. Gomez, 21, of 2012 W. Algonquin Rd. #9A, Mt. Prospect, was charged with no valid driver's license and improper lighting. He was stopped at 8:26 a.m. June 25 at Elmhurst Road and Dempster Street for allegedly having only one headlight.

Antonio C. Balladares, 34, of 5049 N. Troy St. #2, Chicago, was charged with no valid driver's license and no valid safety test at 8:40 a.m. June 27. Police pulled him over at Elmhurst and Camp McDonald roads for the alleged safety violation.

Alberto Morales, 26, of 9813 Bianco Terrace Unit E, Des Plaines, was charged with driving with a revoked driver's license and speeding at 9:15 a.m. June 27. An officer stopped him at Golf Road and Country Lane for allegedly driving at 55 mph in a 40 mph zone. He was also served outstanding warrants from Kane and Lake counties.

Jose F. Vega, 22, of 500 Dogwood Lane #202, Mt. Prospect, was charged with no valid driver's license, illegal transportation of alcohol, expired registration, disobeying a traffic control sign, and no seatbelt. Police pulled him over near his home at 4:13 p.m. June 26 for allegedly going through a stop sign and not wearing a safety belt. Officers allegedly recovered an open bottle of beer from inside his vehicle. He was also served an outstanding warrant from Palatine. Vega has allegedly lived in Illinois for three years without getting a driver's license.

Gilberto Valencia-Ortega, 20, of 8924 Robin Lane Unit A, Des Plaines, was charged with no valid driver's license and speeding at 2:10 p.m. June 26. He was stopped at Central and Rand roads for allegedly driving at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone. He has allegedly lived in this country for two years without getting a driver's license.

An 18-year-old Rolling Meadows man was charged with no valid driver's license and no proof of insurance at 7:35 a.m. June 22. Police took him into custody after a traffic accident at Busse Road and Dempster Street

BURGLARIES

AND THEFTS

A window was broken and a global positioning system taken from a tan 2000 Nissan Quest in the 1800 block of Catalpa Lane between 10:45 p.m. June 17 and 3:20 a.m. June 18.

Two briefcases, a calculator, a pen, glasses, a telephone headset, and prescription medication were taken from a white 1997 Dodge Ram in the 1100 block of Business Center Drive. The burglary occurred between 5 p.m. June 25 and 12:10 a.m. June 26.

Someone broke a window and took a global positioning system and a radar detector from a gray 2007 Dodge Ram in the 1800 block of Hopi Lane. The burglary occurred between 8:30 p.m. June 23 and 10 a.m. June 24.

A satellite radio, two tennis rackets, and a digital camera were taken from a silver 2007 Ford Escape in the 1400 block of West Cleven Avenue between 7:30 p.m. June 23 and 5:00 a.m. June 24.

Someone entered an unlocked gray and blue 2000 Toyota Sienna in the 1400 block of Greenbriar Drive between 9 p.m. June 23 and 8:30 a.m. June 24. Nothing appeared taken from the vehicle.

A resident in the 200 block of North Cathy Lane reported seeing a man on her second floor balcony at 4:30 a.m. June 21. The man jumped from the balcony and escaped in a black car, she said.

Power tools valued at $920 were taken from an unlocked blue 2000 Chevrolet van in the 900 block of Westgate Drive. The burglary occurred between 3 p.m. June 27 and 8 a.m. June 28.
