Fundraiser To Help Prospect Students Go To London
The Prospect High School London Knights Campaign is hosting a fundraising event at multiple sites in Arlington Hts. and Mt. Prospect on Saturday, May 17.
Sites include - Caribou Coffee, Dominick's at Golf and 83 and Kohls department store, all in Mt. Prospect; Panera Bread, Bigsby Coffee, Jewel and Harmony Park in Arlington Hts.
The 262 participating students comprise a distinguished group of high school musicians and singers who participate in Choir, Orchestra and Marching Band activities.
The group, along with 120 adults, will travel to London, England from Dec. 27 to Jan. 3 to take part in London's New Year's Gala Concert and New Year's Day Parade.
"It is a tremendous honor for our students to be invited to perform in London. These talented, hard-working students are representing the communities of Arlington Hts. and Mt. Prospect and our fundraiser provides residents with the opportunity to support them," said Eileen Henquinet, fundraising chairperson.
Band, orchestra, and choir students will perform at 20 locations throughout the area on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations will defray the cost of the London trip. The group hopes to raise $20,000.
Tax deductible donations may be mailed to: PBB - London Knights, P.O. Box 63, Mt. Prospect, IL 60056.
According to Patrick R. O'Connor, music director and conductor, coordinator of Fine & Performing Arts at Prospect High School, the Marching Band will perform in the London New Year's Day Parade and a standstill performance in downtown London. The Symphony Orchestra and London Choir will perform in London Gala Concerts.
"We will be preparing a variety of music that represents Prospect's performing groups and our community as well - including our orchestra's premier performance of "Great Prospects Overture" written for Mt. Prospect and commissioned by the Prospect Symphony Orchestra," stated O'Connor.
He added that traveling together as a department allows us to provide the best overseas experience for the maximum number of students.
While in London, the students will be taking educational tours, sightseeing, going to concerts and shows and New Year's events.
"A great deal of planning and coordination has been done over the past three years in our department, insuring this trip to be a very rewarding educational experience for our students," O'Connor said.
