Village To Buy 'Perfect Petal' Property

An ordinance adopted Tuesday by trustees clears the way for the village to purchase a piece of property in the downtown triangle in the amount of $230,000.

The site, located at 108 S. Main Street, is home to A Perfect Petal flower shop. This property comprises the western half of the village-owned public parking lot located at the southwest corner of Main Street and Busse Avenue.

The property was originally donated to the village in 1969 by George L. Busse to allow for the construction of a public parking lot.

The Trustee's Deed that transferred ownership of the lot to the village contained a reversionary clause that returns ownership of the property to the original owner at such time that the property ceases to be used by the village for a public parking lot.

According to village officials, given that the pending redevelopment of the small triangle does not utilize that parcel or public parking, it was in the best interest of the village to pursue the outright purchase of that land at this time.

An unidentified employee at A Perfect Petal confirmed that the business plans to re-locate in the near future.

An attempt to reach the owner for comment was unsuccessful.
