Mayor Still Unsure If She'll Run Hearing

Mt. Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilks said she has not yet decided if she will preside over the Thursday, May 9 hearing to revoke Ye Olde Town Inn restaurant and bar owner Tod Curtis' liquor license due to alleged village building code violations.

"I was out of town last week and I expect to make a decision sometime next week," said Wilks, who is also the village's Liquor Control Commissioner.

At a hearing earlier this month, Wilks mandated that both Village Attorney Everette Hill and Curtis' attorney Kenneth Sullivan present information to her to determine why she should or should not preside over the hearing.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Wilks said she has received additional information from Sullivan's perspective.

When asked if Wilks has someone in place to replace her if she decides to remove herself from the proceedings, she said, "I will make a decision next week."

Earlier this month, Sullivan stated that Curtis believes he would receive an "unfair and impartial hearing," because Wilks has "considerable interest" in the condemnation proceedings that are currently being held between the village and Curtis.

At that time, Sullivan requested for an independent mediator to conduct the May hearing.

The village is pursuing to revoke Curtis' liquor license due to a Mar. 6 inspection report citing numerous structures at the establishment were considered "unsafe" and sufficient action has not been taken to rectify the situation since then, according to village officials.
