A seasoned educator, Dr. Johns began his career in 1989 as an English teacher at Elk Grove High School. During his tenure at the school, he served as a dean intern for two years and dean of students for five years. In 1999, Dr. Johns assumed his current position at Rolling Meadows High School.
Some of his responsibilities as associate principal have included creating and implementing annual building budgets, working in partnership to design three major additions and an athletic field, organizing the summer school and transitional skills program, and serving as the administrative representative for the local professional development committee while maintaining all records related to the teacher recertification program.
"Dr. Johns provides us with the opportunity to have an in-district leader at the helm of Rolling Meadows High School," said Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth A. Ennis. "He is a competent and highly respected member of the Rolling Meadows staff. His years there position him to continue the innovations being made at the school."
For the past 10 years, Rolling Meadows High School has been restructured to "maximize students learning in a more personalized environment," according to district officials. The school has been organized within a block schedule and divided into three small learning communities.
In September 2003, Dr. Johns became an adjunct professor at National-Louis University where he teaches statistics and research methods to graduate students who are not yet certified to teach. He has served on numerous committees and is a member of the Rolling Meadows Chamber of Commerce.
A Geneva resident, Dr. Johns has a bachelor degree in English and psychology and a master's degree in English from the University of Iowa. He received his doctorate degree in educational leadership and policy studies from Loyola University of Chicago.
