Waste Hauling Fee Reduced, Leaf Pickup Service Expanded

Even though a new six-year waste hauling contract with Groot Industries was just approved by village trustees last month, Glenview officials announced further reductions in fees and expansions for residential waste hauling services earlier this month.

Residents will see their monthly SWANCC (Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County) disposal fee reduced from $7.05 to $6.05 per month reducing the overall curbside collection fee to $16.01 per month. Seniors will receive an additional 10% discount.

Reductions will take effect with the renewal of the contract on July 1, 2010.

Also expanded at the Tuesday, Mar. 2 meeting was leaf pickup.

Trustees announced that during the month of November, Groot would pickup an unlimited number of un-stickered yard waste bags.

Residents are allowed four un-stickered 30-gallon bags of yard waste each week from April through November under the new Groot Industries residential waste-hauling contract that takes effect in July.

Use of more than four bags requires each have a Groot sticker.

That provision of the new contract was amended after village officials received feedback from residents concerned that four bags a week during the heavier periods of leaf collection in the fall might not be enough to hold all the leaves collected.
