More Meetings Scheduled Between Village, ComEd

The average length of power outages last year for Glenview ComEd customers was 118 minutes, below the state average of 190 minutes, a ComEd spokesman told village officials during an annual report on local utility service.

The meeting did not resolve the issue of maintenance for 18 streetlights on Waukegan Road between Harrison Street and Overlook Drive.

After the streetlights failed last year, ComEd refused to repair them at their cost citing "excessive maintenance." ComEd has not defined to the village or the Journal what defines "excessive."

Given safety concerns the village made temporary repairs to the streetlights at its expense. ComEd agreements with the village say streetlight maintenance is a ComEd responsibility.

Since the meeting village officials have still not resolved the streetlight issue but have more meetings with ComEd officials scheduled later this month.

Residents speaking at the meeting called on ComEd to move a transformer at 3403 Winchester Lane, which residents say is located in a low lying area and is routinely submerged with water in heavy rain events. Residents said they suspect this as the cause of frequent neighborhood power failures during or after heavy rains.

ComEd officials disagreed, saying the transformer is built to withstand flooding and said the transformer would not be moved at a customer's request.

Village President Kerry Cummings said the request was not a matter of esthetics and urged ComEd to reconsider.

Also complaining about repeated outages last year in January and April was the manager of the Classic Residence by Hyatt in The Glen.   

Both Journal reporters and village officials requested copies of the report delivered last month at the village's public meeting but were denied as ComEd said the report was proprietary.
