Empowering Local Job Seekers Mission Of New Career Center

Though unemployment is not as serious an issue in Glenview, Northbrook and Deerfield as it is in other surrounding communities, such as Des Plaines, Bill Landwehr and Carolyn Cram thought something needed to be done about it.

The two Northbrook residents founded the North Suburban Career and Networking Center (NSCNC) just three weeks ago.

The organization held its first open house yesterday (Tuesday, June 16) at the North Suburban YMCA (its partner organization) and will hold its first networking event tonight at Northbrook Village Hall at 6:30 p.m.

"Our mission is to empower job seekers in every aspect of the job transition process, especially the time it takes to land their next job," said Landwehr in a written statement. "Our goal is to help people reduce their job search cycle time by 50%."

NSCNC events will include weekly workshops, monthly networking events and speakers at reduced fees. The organization will also offer help in resume review and job search assistance.

Events will be held regularly in the three communities though the program is based at the YMCA.

Membership will be open to residents of other communities outside of Glenview, Northbrook and Deerfield as well.

Organizers said their goal is to build membership in the organization to 500 people by the end of the year.

Unemployment was projected to average about 6% in Glenview, Northbrook and Deerfield in April though it was higher in other surrounding communities like Des Plaines where it reached 10%.
