Glenview Restaurant Suddenly Closes Doors

Hamilton's Restaurant, a long-time destination for hungry Glenview residents, closed its doors last week permanently without notice. Some employees have reportedly still not been paid.

On Sunday night Nov. 16, employees at Hamilton's, located on Waukegan Road near Chestnut Avenue in Glenview, went through its typical closing procedures to prepare for the following day.

When employees reported to work the next morning a sign on the door read, "We wish you all the best but we had to close the restaurant permanently."

The Journal spoke with managers at several nearby restaurants where former Hamilton's employees applied for jobs after being unexpectedly let go.

Former Hamilton's employees told area managers stories of shock and surprise as they arrived to a darkened and shuttered restaurant on Monday morning.

Laura Schlegel, a partner at Mario's Mondo Cafe on Waukegan Road, said she spoke with applicants who still had not been paid and could not reach owner Gus Komitis.

"They need to pay these people," said Schlegel. "Even if it's only $25 they should treat these people like human beings."

"If we get busy enough we would hire them," said Schlegel.

Mario Galletti, another partner in Mario's Mondo, said the business has passed through several hands since it was known as Jasper's several years ago. He said Komitis owned the business for at least the past year.
