Mom Charged With Neglect

Lorena Cortazar, of the 1100 Block of 11th Street in Northfield, was arrested by Glenview police Tuesday at her home in the Sunset Village Trailer Park, charged with two counts of misdemeanor child neglect, police said.

Glenview Police Sgt. Terry Urbanowski told the Journal the two children, ages five years and 11 months, were left home alone for at least about two hours.

She said a concerned neighbor saw one of the two children playing outside of the trailer with out supervision and called police.

Police contacted the Dept. of Children and Family Services (DCFS) who responded to the scene.

DCFS allowed the children to stay in the home but are starting an investigation of their own.

Cortazar was released on a $1,000 bond ($100 cash). A hearing in Cook County Circuit Court is scheduled for Monday, June 16.
