Park District To Call On Reserves

The Glenview Park Dist. passed a $38 million budget for fiscal year 2008-2009 at its Thursday, Apr. 24 meeting.

Expenses exceed expected revenues by over $8 million. The park district will dip into a $17 million fund reserve to cover the difference.

Taxes only account for 49.3% of the park district's total revenue including a TIF payment of over $1 million accounting for 3.8% of revenues. Included in the budget document released to the Journal were the results of a survey of 1,000 residents who gave feedback on the park district. Residents were surveyed at park district golf courses, pools and summer camps. The survey found 96% of those surveyed said they would recommend park district facilities to a friend.

Many Glenview residents seem to use park district facilities. The survey showed 121,022 visits were made to pools in 2007, visitors to The Grove totaled 175,000, golfers played 65,671 rounds of golf at park district golf courses and 45,063 people visited Wagner Farm.

Merchandise sales, fees and rental charges accounted for 41.6% of park district income and 9.1% was from proceeds from bonds, interest grants and donations.
