GCC: Nursery Marks 60 Years
Glenview Community Church Nursery School is celebrating 60 years of nurturing children.
In celebration of 60 years of the Nursery School, current students will bury a time capsule in the playground on Wednesday, Nov. 14 which they will fill with artwork, photos and other fun mementos. This special event will begin at 11:30 a.m. Current and former students and staff, including longtime preschool director Nancy Winton, will help to mark the 60 year milestone. In addition, the Village of Glenview has issued an official proclamation honoring Glenview Community Church Nursery School as it celebrates a rich 60-year history of educating and nurturing preschoolers.
The school is asking alumni in the community to share their favorite memory of Glenview Community Church Nursery School by attending the ceremony or bringing a photo or memento (with the date on the back) to be buried in the time capsule. The school will leave directions for the time capsule to be unearthed on the 100th anniversary in the year 2047. Following the burying of the time capsule, a small reception will be held for all alumni, students and their family members.
GCCNS, which is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), has grown from its origins in the basement of the minister's home in the original location on Dewes Street. Using the same principles on which we were founded, Glenview Community Church Nursery School continues to provide a nurturing environment to over 140 students where each child is encouraged to grow cognitively, socially, emotionally and, physically.
