Bells, Whistles Set For Tyner Center Opening
The Village of Glenview will officially roll out the green carpet for the Evelyn Pease Tyner Interpretive Center at Air Station Prairie on Saturday, Apr. 14.
The opening has been long awaited as construction on the center finished last fall.
The center works as a passive information venue using large panels instead of exhibits to explain the historical and ecological importance of the 32-acre prairie. A village spokesman said the center won't be home to many programs, but instead feature walled reading material with pictures and explanations to detail local wildlife and vegetation.
The panels are both in and outside the building so people can explore while the center is closed.
The opening will come just as the village and the Glenview Park Dist. wrap up details on an Intergovernmental Agreement on the prairie, divvying up financial and managerial responsibilities between the two.
With solar panels and a green roof system, the center is also meant to serve as a model for sustainable interaction between the man-made and natural worlds.
The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the interpretive center, located on the northwest corner of Lehigh Road and Compass Avenue in the Glen.
