Morgenthaler Deserves A Shot
Once again, a slugfest is taking place in the 6th Congressional Dist. where Henry Hyde served for 32 years before retirement. Two distinctly different candidates are competing for the privilege of serving residents of the area for the next two years beginning January 2009. The district includes portions of western and southern Des Plaines, southern Mt. Prospect, Elk Grove Village and many communities to the west in DuPage County.
We like incumbent Peter Roskam, the 47-year-old conservative Republican who defeated Tammy Duckworth two years ago in a hotly contested race. We believe he's thoughtful, smart, and energetic and has some good ideas. Roskam's opponent, Jill Morgenthaler, a retired Army colonel and Des Plaines resident possesses the same qualities. Comparing the two, we feel Morgenthaler is slightly better because of her fresh approach, sound, cool judgment, and worldly experience. The Journal & Topics urges her election next Tuesday.
