EG Burglars Flee After Posing As Roofing Contractors

Elk Grove Village police are on the hunt for a pair of men who burglarized a home in the 100 block of Lonsdale Road last Tuesday by posing as roofing contractors.

Police said the first man who gained entrance to the home posing as a roofing contractor distracted the homeowner while a second man entered the house and took an unknown amount of jewelry and currency from a bedroom. The two men fled in a dark van. The two alleged burglars are still at large.

The first man is described by police as white or Hispanic about 5’5” tall, 30-40 years of age, unshaven with dark hair, dark clothing and a stocky build.

The second man is described as white or Hispanic, about 5’8” tall, 30-40, with a heavy set build, black hair and a black moustache wearing dark clothing.

A similar home burglary was attempted in the village on Texas Street last month when a man said he needed to check the homeowner’s water pressure. That man then tried to force his way into the home but was unsuccessful.

Elk Grove Village Deputy Police Chief Make Kirkpatrick said warmer spring weather brings out these types of criminals.

Elk Grove Village Manager Ray Rummel said all village employees carry village identification. He said if homeowners have questions about someone claiming to be a village employee to contact police who can determine whether an employee is legitimate.
