Dist. 59 Agrees To Keep Preschool Fees Same

Elk Grove Township Elementary School Dist. 59 board members recently approved numerous fees for the 2010-11 school year.

Board members chose not to raise preschool program fees for next year, instead deciding to keep them constant to what they are this year.

A four-day program that begins in September and runs through June will cost parents $1,882 for the entire year, $941 per semester, or $188 a month. For a five-day program that goes from September through June, parents will need to pay fees of $2,350 per year, $1,175 per semester or $235 per month.

Families are required to pay the first month fee at the time of confirmation of placement in the program.

The four-day program will be conducted Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. The five-day program will be Monday-Friday from 9:25 to 11:55 a.m.

Board members also approved the second of a two-year transportation contract with Durham School Services.

The rate for the 2010-11 school year will increase 3% over this year's rates with the contract's estimated amount totaling $3,669,593 based on current routing.

The contract will span from Aug. 1, 2010 through July 31, 2011.

According to district officials, Durham has successfully provided services to the district the last four years, has been an active participant in the district's continuous improvement efforts, has maintained safety standards, and continues to be in compliance with contract requirements.

Lastly, fees for students who are not eligible for free transportation in the district but still choose to take the bus, will remain the same next school year. School board members approved the pay bus fee at $397.  District officials project the approved bus fee will bring in $5,955 in revenue to the district.

The pay bus fee is the amount a family pays to have their child transported to school if it is determined that the student is not eligible for free transportation.

During this fiscal year, 15 students chose to pay for transportation services.

School Dist. 59 serves resiĀdents in western Des Plaines, southern Arlington Hts., Elk Grove Village east of 53, and southern Mt. Prospect.
