EG Mayor Paints Brighter Building Permits Picture
New business permits were significantly up in Elk Grove Village in December, Mayor Craig Johnson said at a village board meeting last week.
The month of December saw 40 new business permits issued by the village compared to an average of between 10 and 15 each month the last quarter of 2009. Johnson said he hoped the up tic in permits was a sign the economy was turning a corner.
Elk Grove Village has faced bleak economic signals through the last year. Last month, Johnson said revenues to the village through sales and real estate transfer taxes were coming in a half a million dollars per month under expectations. Johnson also reported Elk Grove Village's one million square foot Business Park had a vacancy rate of between 13 and 14%, the highest in its history.
