Three Cited In Liquor Stings

Several Elk Grove Village establishments that sell liquor served minors alcohol during police stings last month.

Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson said two establishments failed the stings outright and one "unofficially failed." Johnson would not clarify what unofficially failing means.

The mayor, who also serves as the village's liquor commissioner, announced the results of the police stings at a village board meeting late last month and said liquor commission hearing dates would be scheduled soon.

Johnson would not name the establishments or give any details of the stings saying not all had been officially notified by the village that they failed the stings.

Elk Grove Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Mike Gaspari would not provide details referring inquiries back to Johnson.

Johnson said he would provide details early next week when all the "paperwork" is complete and in order.

At the same time the liquor sting was going on, a sting to test retailers on the sale of tobacco to minors was also underway. No retailers sold cigarettes to minors working with police during the sting operations.
