Police Point To Pre-Existing Heart Condition In EG Motorist Death

A Roselle man suffered a possible heart attack and died while driving in Elk Grove Village last Thursday (Dec. 3), taking out a road sign and crashing into a tree along the way, police said.

The accident occurred Thursday at 8:40 a.m. near the intersection of Cosman Road and Winston Drive near the south end of Busse Woods.

Ralph Arbolea, 58, of the 500 block of Cumberland Trail, Roselle, was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Elk Grove Village Police Sgt. Jeff Prior said the death occurred as the result of a pre-existing medical condition, adding that Arbolea did not die because of injuries sustained in the crash.

A spokeswoman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said an autopsy is still pending but said Arbolea appeared to have suffered a heart attack while driving.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
