School Dist. 54 Tax Levy Seeks $152 Million

The Schaumburg Twp. Elementary School District 54 board approved a resolution estimating its 2009 tax levy at $152,038,682, exclusive of Debt Service.

A tax levy is a request for funds from the county to pay for day-to-day operations. The tax rate is subject to tax cap legislation. The estimated 2009 levy represents a 2.64% increase from 2008.

To arrive at this year's levy request, District 54 officials applied the equalized assessed valuation (EAV) from the prior year to an estimated tax rate.

In addition to the published levy for programs and services, the District 54 aggregate levy will include an amount necessary to retire a portion of principal and interest on life safety bonds. The Bond & Interest levy will be $8,961,600, a decrease of 2.29% from 2008.

A public hearing will be held on the estimated levy at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 3, in the boardroom at the District Office at 524 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg.
