Devon Resurfacing On For Spring In EG
Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson apologized to Devon Avenue business owners for a road project scheduled to start next spring while discussing other road projects at a recent village board meeting.
The Cook County Highway Dept. plans to resurface sections of Devon between Rohlwing and Busse roads next spring.
The village has rebuilt intersections along Devon at Lively Boulevard, Arlington Hts. Road, Busse and Tonne roads, and widened lanes along Devon between Elmhurst and Busse roads within the last six years. Many motorists have learned to avoid Devon in favor of alternative routes.
Johnson asked Cook County Highway Supt. Rupert Graham hold off on resurfacing until 2011 to give business owners a reprieve from the continuous cycle of construction projects, but Graham rejected his request for a delay in a letter to Johnson earlier this month citing additional deterioration of the road that could change the scope of the project.
Village Engineer Alan Boffice said the county would resurface sections between intersections beginning in early spring 2010. He said he hoped they would be completed by early August 2010 but did not have a projected timeline from the county to know if that would be the case.
Another major project in Elk Grove Village has been placed on the Northwest Municipal Conference's (NWMC) "B list" for lighting improvements. Upgrades are planned along Rohlwing Road between Biesterfield Road and the Elgin O'Hare Expressway on the village's south side.
"I'm confident we'll see money for the project in the next few years," said Boffice.
