O'Hare West Bypass Hearing Oct. 8

The Illinois Dept. of Transportation (IDOT) will hold another hearing at Belvedere Banquets in Elk Grove Village on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 4-8 p.m. to discuss two remaining options for the proposed Elgin O'Hare West Bypass Expressway.

The new highway would link I-90 and I-294 running from the Des Plaines Oasis on the Jane Addams Tollway (I-90) south past Elk Grove Village and Bensenville to Franklin Park where it would connect to I-294.

Remaining routes near Elk Grove Village for the new highway would run from Thorndale Avenue east to the Elk Grove Village-O'Hare Airport border at York Road.

One of the remaining two options would run the new highway along airport property while the other would expand York/Elmhurst Road.

Last March, Elk Grove Village led an effort to deliver 38,000 comment cards opposing an earlier option to run the new highway down Busse Road, through the heart of Elk Grove Village's business park, preferring the option to take the new highway east of York/Elmhurst Road onto airport property. Since that hearing an additional 2,000 comment cards have been delivered.

At a recent village board meeting, Mayor Craig Johnson encouraged residents to attend the hearing to have their voices heard.
