Lions Memorial Re-Dedication Set For Saturday

Fireworks displays at this year's July 4th celebration at Lions Park in Elk Grove Village will be bigger thanks to the washout of RotaryFest last month.

The display will begin at about 9 p.m. on Saturday after a concert by the Elk Grove Brass Band at 8 p.m. and re-dedication of the Lions Memorial Wall at noon.

Lions Club members will sell food beginning at about 6 p.m. to residents who typically picnic before the concert and display.

Proceeds from food sales will support the club's charitable efforts.

The original memorial wall was damaged when Rainbow Falls Water Park was rebuilt, according to Lion Ann Feichter. A temporary wall was built.

The new wall was finished last month and will be rededicated by Lions Club members at the park on Saturday. It includes all the names of past Lions Club members who have passed away.

Village trustees approved a $35,200 contract last month with Johnny Rockets Fireworks Company to provide displays for three village events, RotaryFest, July 4th and the Christmas tree lighting.

After the RotaryFest display was cancelled due to heavy rains that also cancelled the annual Hometown Parade, Johnny Rockets agreed to increase the size of the two remaining displays for Independence Day and the winter tree lighting.

The company will set off the same amount of fireworks they would have for three displays in two displays.
