Life Saving Police Officer Honored By EG
Elk Grove Village police officer Edward Thomas was honored with the village's "Life Saving Award" at Tuesday's village board meeting for bringing a 17-year-old male back to life last April.
On Tuesday, Apr. 28, Thomas was responding to Elk Grove Bowl at Arlington Hts. and Higgins roads when he arrived first on the scene to find the unconscious teen in full cardiac arrest with no pulse.
Using an automated external defibrillator (AED), Thomas brought the 17-year-old back to life before Elk Grove Fire Dept. paramedics arrived at the scene.
At Tuesday's meeting a humble Thomas thanked Mayor Craig Johnson and Police Chief Steven Schmidt for his training and available equipment that helped him save the teen's life.
Johnson said the AED machines were acquired for the police department using a government grant and had saved seven or eight lives since they were purchased.
