Queen of the Rosary Turning 50

Queen of the Rosary Parish kicks off a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary as a parish on Sunday, June 14. Following the 11:30 Mass celebrated by Rev. Edward Pelrine, pastor, parishioners will gather on the Elk Grove church grounds for their annual picnic.

"Highlights of the year-long celebration include, the Nov. 27 All Alumni Reunion being held in the school, Cardinal Francis George celebrating Mass on Nov. 29, parishioners Christmas caroling in December and our school's Open House being held on Sunday, Jan. 31," said committee chair, Michelle Riopel.

Queen of the Rosary Parish was established in 1959 when Cardinal Meyer appointed Rev. John Ward Morrison to organize a parish. The first Mass was celebrated on July 5, 1959 in Mark Hopkins School, located at Landmeier and Higgins roads. While construction for the church and school were in progress, classes were held at Our Lady of Hope. On May 21, 1961 Cardinal Meyer dedicated the new church, school, and rectory.
