Wheeling Park District invites you to workout for a great cause at "Pump Up the Pantry" on Saturday, Nov. 8. Bring five non-perishable food items to donate to the Wheeling Township Food Pantry. Body Pump is a one-hour, full-body strength workout set to music that targets glutes, legs, abdominals, back, chest, shoulders, biceps, and triceps. Class times are available at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 8. To reserve your barbell set, contact the Wheeling Park District Fitness Center at 847-465-2943.
Plan to attend the Holy Family Lutheran School benefit dinner and auction at The Meadows Club, located at 2950 W. Golf Road in Rolling Meadows. The event will take place on Friday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. The dinner and auction raises essential tuition assistance funds for 190 of Chicago's Westside students who are enrolled at the Holy Family Lutheran School. Artists and crafters are sought for the 37th annual Kirk School Spring Showcase of Arts & Crafts to be held Mar. 7-8 at Samuel A. Kirk School, 520 S. Plum Grove Road, Palatine. All items must be original work created by the exhibitor. The 2009 Showcase is sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta Alumnae and Parents and Teachers of Handicapped Students. Arlington Camera Club meets at the Arlington Historical Society, 110 W. Fremont, Arlington Hts., on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, September through June. The Eli Skinner Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court, Palatine. This is a combined meeting of the chapter and the Aaron Miner Society, N.S.C.A.R. The program will be "Chemawa: The Future of Native American Youth," presented by American Indian Committee Chairman, Jane Bender. Members are encouraged to bring Native American artifacts to display. Eli Skinner Chapter, NSDAR, is a service organization that meets monthly from September through June. Frisbie Senior Center in coordination with the Des Plaines Youth Commission invite the community to attend an Intergenerational Sock Hop on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the center, located at 52 E. The Friday, Nov. 14 meeting of the Northwest Suburban Astronomers will feature a panel discussion by club members of various types of telescopes available to amateur astronomers (reflectors, refractors and compound systems) and strengths and weaknesses associated with each. The club meets beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoffman Estates Park District Community Center, 1685 West Higgins Road (at Huntington Boulevard). There is no cost to attend. La Leche League of Mt. Prospect meets monthly on the third Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., at Community Presbyterian Church, 407 N. Main St., Mt. Prospect. La Leche League is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing breastfeeding information and mother-to-mother support. The discussion topic for September is "Getting Breastfeeding Off To a Good Start." Meetings are free and open to women who are expecting babies, nursing or just want more information on breastfeeding. Nursing babies are always welcome. Religion
Amidst all the tensions, conflict and violence, how can people in Chicagoland make a difference in the Holy Land? Speakers from Israel and Palestine will address that question at an event sponsored by The Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's (ELCA) Working Group on the Middle East. Act for Justice in Israel/Palestine - Palestinian Solidarity Sunday is the theme of the seminar on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 9, at St Luke's Lutheran Church, 205 North Prospect Ave., Park Ridge. The event will take place from 2-4 p.m., and everyone is invited to attend.
A little bit of Italy is coming Friday, Nov. 14 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. St. John Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect, is sponsoring a community-wide spaghetti dinner. This family-style dinner will be held in the lower level of the school building (across the street from the church) at 1101 Linneman Rd., Mt. Prospect (one block south of Golf Rd.). Dinner includes spaghetti with choice of meat sauce or garlic with olive oil, garlic bread, salad, dessert and beverages. Ticket donations will be accepted and a raffle will take place.
