Second Suburb Players announces auditions, rehearsals and performances (and behind-the-scenes opportunities) for "Anything Goes," its upcoming spring production. Those age 14-20 (13 with reference) interested in participating are sought. Auditions will be held May 19-20, with callbacks May 21-22. Rehearsals are May 27-July 10, with performances July 11-20 at Cutting Hall, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine. Contact the Players in advance to schedule an audition appointment, to inquire about possible additional alternate audition dates/times, or for any other additional information. Walk-ins will be welcome, but will be taken as (and if) there is time. Audition appointments may last from 45 minutes to an hour.
Arlington Heights' 6th Annual Promenade of Art kicks off the Chicago area's 2008 Summer Art Festival Season Saturday, May 31 - Sunday, June 1 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in downtown Arlington Heights, just steps from the Metra station at 121 W. Campbell (intersection of Vail and Campbell) near Metropolis Performing Arts Center. This free art festival is ranked one of the top 100 art festivals by Sunshine Artist magazine. Hosted by Northwest Community Hospital and the Village of Arlington Heights, the festival features wide range of functional and non-functional art including ceramics, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, mixed media, photography (b/w and color), painting (acrylic/mixed media /oil/watercolor), print, sculpture, wood, stone and more. Admission to the Festival is free. Free public parking is available throughout the festival weekend in several commuter lots located along the Metra line.
Clubs & Organizations
Students from Des Plaines, Palatine, Prospect Heights, Forest Park and Chicago, will participate in Des Plaines-based Paul Lindblad Choristers Spring Recital on Friday, June 6. The recital is the culmination of the choirs' 18th season and will be held at the Cardinal Drive Church of Christ, 2300 Cardinal Drive, Rolling Meadows. The recital, which begins at 7 p.m., is free and open to the public. The recital will feature Michael Hurd's "Adam in Eden". This entertainment for children's voices tells the story of Adam and Eve. Children interested in studying singing should contact Paul Lindblad at 847-420-9200. Choristers' 19th season will begin with a choir day camp in August.
Hit the greens of Palatine Hills Golf Course on Wednesday, June 18 for the 4th Annual Journeys Golf Outing. An exciting luncheon and awards ceremony will be held afterwards. Journeys from PADS to HOPE helps individuals in Northwest Suburban Cook County who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Movin' On is a nondenominational social group whose purpose is to provide a welcoming, social situation exclusively for widowed men and women in the northwest suburbs. Friday, June 13 - Twin Lakes Concert - "Replay" a classic rock band at a lower volume. Friday, June 20 - Twin Lakes Concert - Group, "Big Guitars from Memphis". The free series is held at the Twin Lakes Recreation Area in Palatine. Food, including a fish fry, is available at the clubhouse. Get together with Movin' On members to enjoy music and refreshments.
The Eli Skinner Chapter, a Northwest-suburban chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold its annual Flag Day Outing program and luncheon at the 1776 Restaurant in Crystal Lake June 12. The program will depict food and lifestyles of the Revolutionary War period. Reservations are necessary.
