Dist. 214, 59 Expect Less Funds To NSSEO
School board members in Township High School Dist. 214 and Elk Grove Twp. Elementary Dist. 59 reviewed their shares in Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization's (NSSEO) proposed 2008-09 budget.
The proposed NSSEO expenditure budget totals $42,691,963, an 8.03% increase from 2007-08's actual expenditures. However, both local school districts are expecting to contribute less in the coming year.
NSSEO provides both direct and indirect educational services to the special needs students in the Northwest suburbs.
District 214's proposed share of $6,310,471 reflects a 4% decrease from 2007-08 costs for the high school district. The decrease is due to finalization of a three-year plan returning Dist. 214 students attending the Northwest Suburban Academy back to the district. Over the past two years, cost savings have totaled $2,570,005. The decrease is also due to the district acquiring an adapted physical education program, assistive technology, a Transitional Vocational Services (TVS) program, a work force grant and social workers.
Dist. 59's share totals $2,460,249---down $140,629, or 5.4%---from last year.
The elementary school district is anticipating six fewer students to be enrolled in NSSEO tuition programs. The district is anticipating a decrease in occupational therapy services, an increase in physical therapy services, and a decrease in vision services to meet the needs of the students.
The budget includes $961,966 in federal Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) funds distributed directly to Dist. 59 to be used to offset the cost of NSSEO services, and $50,861 to offset the cost of a special Pre-K program.
A vote on the NSSEO budget will be taken its Governing Board on June 4.
