Dist. 59 Offers Free Rides From 'Safety Hazard' Areas
In accordance with school code, Elk Grove Township Elementary Dist. 59 board members have determined certain areas within the district considered "serious safety hazards," according to guidelines determined by the Illinois Dept, of Transportation (IDOT) and the Illinois State Board of Education.
According to Illinois School Code, a school board may provide free transportation for any pupil residing within one and one-half miles from school where conditions are such that walking constitutes a serious hazard due to vehicular traffic.
Students who live within those "serious safety hazard" areas are claimable on the State Transportation Reimbursement Claim.
The following areas are considered being in hazard zones:
* Salt Creek Elementary, Arlington Heights Road at Biesterfield Road
* Friendship Jr. High, Oakton Street at Pennsylvania Avenue
* Friendship, Elmhurst Road at Oakton Street
* Friendship, Dempster Street at Marshall Drive.
* Forest View Elementary School, Golf Road at Meier Road
* Forest View, Busse Road at Lonnquist Blvd.
* John Jay Elementary School, Algonquin Road and Briarwood Drive
* Grove Jr. High, Landmeier Road at Ridge Avenue
* Admiral Byrd, Biesterfield Road from Martha Street to Leicester Road
* Brentwood Elementary, Mt. Prospect Road from Golf Road to 350-ft. south of Golf Road
* Friendship, Elmhurst Road from Holiday Lane to Algonquin Road
* Grove, Devon Avenue from Ridge Avenue to 350-ft. west of Ridge Avenue
* Admiral Byrd, Devon Avenue from Park Blvd. to Berkenshire Lane
* Devonshire Elementary, Mt., Prospect Road from Roxbury to 350-ft. north of Roxbury
* Holmes Jr. High, Golf Road to Meier Road
* Holmes, from Busse Road at Lonnquist Blvd.
* Friendship, Mt. Prospect Road from Roxbury to 350-ft. north of Roxbury
* Holmes, Arlington Heights Road at Council Trail
* Grove, Arlington Heights Road from Meadows Ct. to Elk Grove Blvd.

The school board is expected to approve the resolution at the next board of education meeting on Tuesday, May 27.
