Weekend Fundraiser To Support Lou Gehrig's Research
Volunteers will be posted at local shopping centers and street corners in Elk Grove Village this Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 seeking donations to help strike out Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Donors will receive a "tag" with a picture of Lou Gehrig, the famous baseball player who died of this disease at the age of 37 in the 1930's.
This is the 11th annual fundraiser in the area and proceeds will go directly to the Les Turner ALS Research Laboratory at Northwest University Medical School and the Lois Insolia ALS Center, located at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease that incapacitates nerve cells controlling movement. Over time, these muscles gradually cease functioning, resulting in weakness, muscular atrophy and eventually - when respiratory muscles fail - death. There still is no cure for ALS.
