Munchies Faces Liquor Board Tuesday
Munchies, a restaurant located in Elk Grove Village, will stand before a hearing of the Elk Grove Village Liquor Commission on Tuesday, May 13 after the business allegedly failed a recent sting by police.
According to Elk Grove Village Police Chief Stephen Schmidt, on Thursday, March 27 a minor accompanied by an Elk Grove police officer entered the restaurant, located at Arlington Heights Road and Turner Avenue. The minor was served liquor and police cited the restaurant.
Mayor Craig Johnson, who also serves as the village's liquor commissioner, said this is Munchies' first offense.
If the restaurant is found guilty by the liquor commission, it will likely only face a fine, Johnson said.
Other businesses passed the sting that night, including Smoke Hut, a tobacco and liquor store in the village that was previously shut down for a week by the village after it was found guilty of selling liquor to a minor.
Johnson said the village conducts these types of stings three or four times a year.
