Village Buying New Vehicles
Elk Grove Village is buying 11 new vehicles at a cost of $953,450 for the fleet.
The purchase of nine new police vehicles, one new Public Works truck and one new fire "pumper" truck were all approved at the village's Tuesday, Apr. 22 Board of Trustees meeting.
All of the vehicles are being replaced as part of a normal replacement schedule based on miles and years of service.
The village will pay a total of $256,967 for nine 2008 Ford Crown Victorias at a cost of $20,578 each plus extra costs for specialized law enforcement options.
One of the cars is designated as a pursuit undercover squad car, while the other eight are designated as patrol squad cars.
Currie Motors will supply the cars as part of a joint purchasing agreement with the Northwest Municipal Conference (NWMC).
The new $575,000 fire pumper truck will replace a truck that is 22-years-old.
The contract was awarded to Pierce Manufacturing of Appleton, Wis. as part of the NWMC joint agreement.
The PW truck will cost $121,493 and will replace a PW truck bought new in 1986.
The new truck will act as a dump truck, salt spreader and snowplow.
The truck received $41,516 in upgrades including a stainless steel dump body, a tailgate salt spreader and poly plow with specialized hydraulic and electronic controls.
The cost of the truck exceeded the budgeted amount.
Over $6,400 was transferred from other parts of the budget to cover the difference.
The village's Supt. of Building and Fleet Services blamed federal changes in emission requirements and the increased price of steel as reasons the purchase price ran over budget.
The truck will be purchased from under a state joint purchasing contract from Prairie International Trucks of Springfield.
Police vehicles will be rotated to other departments in the village or sold.
The PW and fire trucks will be sold.
