Collision Near Woodfield Claims Life of Local Man

A Park Ridge man died Saturday after the car he was riding in crashed into another vehicle in Schaumburg.

John Moore, 87, of the 1600 block of S. Prospect Ave. in Park Ridge, was pronounced dead at 10:19 a.m. at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

According to Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl, police responded to a crash near the intersection of West Frontage and East Woodfield roads at approximately 8:30 a.m. When police arrived, they found a blue 2003 Ford Explorer and a white 2001 Infiniti QX4 at the southeast corner of the intersection.

Nebl said one car was traveling southbound on Frontage Road and the other car was traveling eastbound on Woodfield Road when both approached the intersection at the same time.

"The Explorer struck the passenger side of the Infiniti and then both hit the light pole at the southeast corner of the intersection," said Nebl.

Moore was riding in the Explorer that was driven by a 51-year-old female from Arlington Heights. The Infiniti was driven by a 44-year-old from Schaumburg with a two-year-old child in the back seat, police said.

The other three individuals were also transported to the hospital, but were later released, Nebl said.

Nebl said it is not yet known which vehicle was traveling in what direction.

Charges will not be filed until police finish their investigation, according to Nebl.

"It could take a couple months due to blood work that was submitted to the lab," commented Nebl. "With any fatalities, we always do a blood test on the drivers, but there are no indications of drugs or alcohol in this accident."

The intersection was closed for about four hours while police conducted the investigation.
