Elk Grove, IDOT Stuck On Rohlwing Lighting Improvements

Elk Grove Village wants to install streetlights along Rohlwing Road from Biesterfield Road to Devon Avenue.

Village Trustee James Petri said the Illinois Dept. of Transportation is holding up the project claiming that if the village wants the lights, they must be up to IDOT standards and extend to the I-290 expressway out of village jurisdiction.

Petri said Elk Grove's plan would cost the village $35,000 while the IDOT plan would cost $280,000.

The issue was discussed at Tuesday night's village boad meeting. Petri said the village is responding to residents who feel more light is needed along the short stretch of roadway.

Petri said IDOT would mandate the large streetlights that hang over roads like those seen on area expressways.

The village would install its smaller sidewalk street lamps.

Village officials are trying to negotiate the issue with IDOT officials but haven't seen much success.

IDOT officials were contacted for this story but were unable to make a statement by press time.
