Benefits & Fundraisers

As one of the leading fundraising event for Journeys, the Journeys "Vegas Night" is a fun and memorable affair. Guests can enjoy delicious hors d'oeuvres, a 3-hour open bar and a variety of "Vegas style" games (poker, black, jack, roulette, craps and the big money wheel) on Friday, Apr. 4, at Atlantis Banquets, 1273 N. Rand Rd., Arlington Hts. The fun lasts from 6-11 p.m. Journeys from PADS to HOPE helps individuals in Northwest Suburban Cook County who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Queen of the Rosary School, Elk Grove Village, is hosting its spring fundraiser, "French Quarter Dinner Dance," on Friday, Apr. 4 at 6 p.m. at The Belvedere, 1170 Devon Avenue, in Elk Grove. Kiddie Junction Educational Institute is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a banquet and fundraiser on Apr. 11, 6:30 p.m. at The Wellington, 2121 S. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights. Clubs & Organizations

Support4Vets, the northwest suburban support group for military veterans, will meet this Thursday, Mar. 27, 7 -9 p.m., at Forest View Education Center (Door 1), 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Hts. This month's guest speaker is Ms. Beth Keno, founder or Connect Vets, a veterans support group focusing on job search skills and placement. The public is invited to attend. Arlington Camera Club meets at 7:30 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month, September-June. Meetings are held at the Arlington Historical Society, 110 W. Fremont, Arlington Heights (just west of the library). The Apr. 2 meeting will be a competition, followed by a critique workshop on Apr. 16.

Eli Skinner Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will hold its annual chapter meeting on Thursday, Apr. 3 at 12:30 p.m. at the Palatine Public Library, 700 N. North Court, Palatine. The meeting will include election of officers, as well as committee displays and reports. Eli Skinner Chapter, NSDAR, is a service organization that meets monthly from September through June. Its objectives are historical, educational and patriotic. Membership is open to any woman 18 years or older who can trace her family to an ancestor who served the cause of the American Revolution. Membership information is available at ArlHtsDAR@aol.com.

On Saturday, Apr. 5, from 8:30 a.m.-Noon, Long Grove Fire Protection District firefighters will host a pancake breakfast celebrating the launch of the new South Lake County Regional Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) as a community resource in case of major emergencies. The firehouse is located at 1165 Old McHenry Road, Long Grove. CERT program volunteers ages 18 and up are trained on how to handle disasters, hazards and situations that may impact their home, neighborhood and/or business. The pancake breakfast - co-sponsored by area businesses - will include live acoustical music by Thomas Swenson, a silent auction (one prize being an escorted ride in the Long Grove fire engine), a 50/50 raffle and a kids' safety puppet show. Face painting, balloon art, tattoos and more are also planned. The breakfast is co-presented by the Long Grove Fire Fighters Association to help area firefighters and their families during financial crisis due to death or serious illness. The St. Columbkille Alumnae Association will sponsor its annual reunion luncheon on Sunday, Apr. 6 at the Fountain Blue, 2300 S. Mannheim Rd., Des Plaines. Cocktails will begin at noon and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. There is a fee. Proceeds go towards the retirement fund of the Sisters of Providence, St. Mary of the Woods, Indiana.

Township High School Dist. 214 Community Education presents its next Travel & Adventure program on the "Aloha State" on Tuesday, Apr. 8. at 3 p.m. Heading up the presentation is John Wilson, an award-winning Canadian wildlife cinematographer, who has been filming for television since 1974. His shows have appeared on the CBC, PBS and Discovery Channel. Tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of the performance or in advance from the Community Education Office at 2121 S. "Les Bavards du Nord", a monthly francophone lunch group, will meet again on Saturday, Apr. 19, at 1 p.m., for lunch and conversation in French at a Buffalo Grove-area restaurant to be announced later via email. Participants have various levels of proficiency in speaking French, including native speakers. No membership required; listening in French is required. St. James Church, 810 N. Arlington Hts. Road, is hosting a Divine Mercy service starting at 2:50 p.m. on Divine Mercy Sunday, Mar. 30. The Chaplet will be said at 3 p.m. in the church (the hour or mercy), confessions will be heard and the service will conclude at the 5 p.m. Mass.

Northwest Suburban Jewish Congregation presents in concert Chicago cabaret artists Hilary Feldman, Caron Buinis and Caryn Caffarelli, with pianist Mark Burnell, at 8 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 13, at the synagogue, 7800 Lyons St., Morton Grove.
