Road Resurfacing Waits On Weather

As spring approaches and snow melts, the full measure damage to local roads from this year's difficult winter can be seen.

Elk Grove Village planned 6.4 miles of asphalt resurfacing, 8,000 lineal feet of curb and gutter work and 60,000 square feet of industrial and residential sidewalk work before this winter.

Elk Grove Village Public Works Director Tom Cech said PW crews were quick to fill potholes with cold patch during the winter and will resurface roads and apply the more durable hot patch to sections of road this spring.

Cech said only two sections of road, Tonne Road near Walnut Drive and Pratt Boulevard near Busse Road, were not on the list prepared before this winter and would require hot patching this spring.

The Village Board awarded three contracts at its meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 11 to begin the work in April when weather permits.

One contract was awarded to M&A Cement of Bensenville for $336,732. Arrow Road Construction of Mt. Prospect was awarded two contracts, one for $719,794.70 and one for $130,800.

Cech said 10 to 14 bids were submitted last month for the work.

The project will be paid for with $15,000 from the general fund for corporate costs, while the rest will be paid for from the Motor Fuel Tax Fund.
