Benefits & Fundraisers
The Polish Women's Civic Club invites the public to its annual Palm Sunday Luncheon at Avalon Banquets, 1905 East Higgins Rd., Elk Grove Village, on Sunday, Mar. 16. Cocktails begin at 12 p.m., and lunch at 1 p.m. A cash bar will be available. Immediately following the luncheon, a large gift basket raffle will take place. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring children and grandchildren. There is a special menu for children; and, each child will take home a complimentary Easter basket. Elk Grove Village Jaycees are hosting their 48th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, Mar. 15 at Lindbergh Park. The Volunteer Center of Northwest Suburban Chicago is seeking nominations for their annual Caring Hearts Outstanding Volunteer Awards. The March meeting of the Northwest Suburban Astronomers will feature a presentation by NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador Jim Kovac, "Mars Missions and Mysteries." In this presentation, follow the journey of the Mars Exploration Rovers, compare Earth with this neighboring world, view its massive geological features, and discuss some recent discoveries and intriguing mysteries of the "Red Planet." The St. Columbkille Alumnae Association will sponsor its annual reunion luncheon on Sunday, Apr. 6 at the Fountain Blue, 2300 S. Mannheim Rd., Des Plaines. The 11th annual Avenues Irish Fest will be held Friday, Mar. 9, at Meridian Banquets in Rolling Meadows at 2 p.m. The event is hosted by Avenues to Independence, a non-profit agency in Park Ridge that helps developmentally disabled adults. Dinner, music and silent auctions are featured at the fundraiser.
Known by local area residents as "Vegas on a shoe-string budget", the Clearbrook Guardian's Spring Casino Night will feature everything but the show-girls. On Saturday, Mar. 8 from 3 p.m. until 1 a.m. at Clearbrook's Getz Building (746 S. Vermont in Palatine) Vegas-style gambling comes to town. With 30 blackjack and 16 poker tables, along with roulette, craps, wheel games, over/under, and Chuck-a-Luck, the event caters to all levels of gambling enthusiasts. Admission is free to this charitable casino event, among the largest in the Chicagoland-area, attracting over 700 philanthropic gamblers looking to be big winners while raising money for people with developmental disabilities. Catholic Charities North/Northwest Suburban Services presents "Passport To Hope!" Chaired by Sandra Yates of Rolling Meadows, the 19th Annual "Hearts for Homeless Families Dinner and Auction," a fundraising event for Des Plaines-based Catholic Charities' North/Northwest Suburban Shelter Program's New Hope Apartments, will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 15, at Stonegate Conference & Banquet Centre, 2401 W. Higgins Rd. in Hoffman Estates. Valet parking will be available. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception, hors d'oeuvres and silent auction followed by a four-course dinner with wine and a live auction. Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1234 N. Arlington Hts. Rd., Arlington Hts., will host "Le Concert Spiritual" Music for Two Bassoons, on Sunday, Mar. 9, at 3 p.m. Duo Sonoro bassoonists, Carol Hopwood and Mark Lindeblad will present a recital of mostly eighteenth century music arranged for two bassoons. They will be joined by Don Mead and others to present a program of sacred and secular works of Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, and others. The concert will take place in the worship space at Our Saviour's and a free-will offering will be used to benefit the PADS program.
Join Touchstones on Sunday, Mar. 9, at the Schram Museum in Glenview, for "Faith at Home in a Hectic World." The workshop aims to be a forum for sharing ideas, experiences, and traditions in creating a spirit-filled home-whatever and wherever "home" may be. The workshop will be conducted by Rev. Phyllis Beattie a clergy member of the Presbytery of Chicago, with expertise in Children and Family ministries.
