Better Not Go Around RR Gates...

The Des Plaines Police Dept. has launched another crackdown on pedestrians who fail to obey railroad gates or flashing lights. A grant from the Illinois Commerce Commission to educate pedestrians and local residents about the dangers of crossing railroad tracks when gates are down is helping fund the program.

Last year with the same type of grant, Des Plaines police issued 155, $500 tickets and 523 warnings to people for violating the law. During February of this year, 62 verbal warnings were issued to violators and hundreds of informational cards handed out to pedestrians reminding them of rail crossing safety.

Police remind residents to not attempt to cross any tracks when the gates are lowered or warning lights flashing.
