MGM Billiards Could Lose Liquor License
MGM Billiards on Wolf Road in Des Plaines is facing revocation of its liquor license after its manager was charged with felonies for alleged gun and drug possession.
Notice of a liquor license revocation hearing was expected to be sent to MGM this week, said Mayor Marty Moylan, who is also the city's liquor commissioner. The hearing is to be scheduled within the new few weeks.
Des Plaines police responded to the report of a fight at MGM early in the morning New Year's Day.
When police arrived, the alleged combatants had already fled but officers were tipped off about a possible gun and drugs inside.
Police found suspected drugs and paraphernalia, possible marijuana, unlabeled pills and glass smoking pipes, as well as a loaded 9 mm pistol and ammunition in the pool hall manager's office, according to a police report.
MGM Manager Carlos D. Kurtjian, 31, of the 500 block of E. Home Ave., Palatine, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of cannabis and unlawful use of a weapon.
The pool hall has remained closed since New Year's Day.
"When you're charged with two felonies it's a very serious matter," said Moylan.
Moylan said MGM has also been cited for past license violations.
