New Sidewalk Next Spring Along Algonquin

Des Plaines City Council Monday night took a required step toward construction of a new sidewalk along Algonquin Road west of Mt. Prospect Road.

Aldermen approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois Dept. of Transportation to be eligible to receive a $200,000 federal stimulus grant to pay for the sidewalk. No sidewalk is currently located on the stretch.

The project calls for the new sidewalk to be constructed on the north side of Algonquin Road from Mt. Prospect Road west to Seymour Avenue near Friendship Park. The length is six-tenths of a mile. Work will likely be conducted next spring after April.

The grant is 100% federally funded. Once the sidewalk is completed, the city will be responsible for its maintenance.
