Let Holiday Home Decorating Begin!

Ten Des Plaines homeowners and three businesses will be named winners of this year's Des Plaines Holiday Decorating Contest that officially kicked-off this week.

The annual fun event is sponsored by the Journal & Topics Newspapers, publishers of the Des Plaines Journal and 15 other community publications and the Des Plaines Optimist Club.

Members of the Optimist Club will fan out after the Wednesday, Dec. 16 entry deadline to see for themselves the best decorated homes and businesses in Des Plaines. From that, they will judge who they believe are the best decorated, most unusual, and capture the holiday and Christmas spirit.

Special plaques will be awarded to all winners and recognition in the Journal & Topics with articles and photographs.

Starting next Wednesday, official entry forms will be published in the Journal & Topics and be distributed throughout Des Plaines at local stores, public buildings and other convenient locations. Participating residents and business owners have until 5 p.m., Dec. 16 to submit entry forms. Winners will be announced in the Wednesday, Dec. 23 Journal & Topics. Winning homes can be located anywhere within the corporate limits of Des Plaines.
